Tailor

A school of tailor, caught mid-flight in deep water. Small and white against the teal dark, they move as one.

This large piece, is built up in layers; deep Paynes grey and blues anchoring the edges, giving way to a luminous interior of teal, turquoise, and aquamarine that seems to glow from within. The surface is rich with texture: marks, scratches, and washes that evoke the shifting, fractured quality of light filtering through open water. Up close it's pure abstraction; raw, worked, physical. Step back and the ocean assembles itself.

Against all of that depth and movement, the tailor are rendered with deliberate simplicity. The silhouettes, small and fleet, scattered across the lower canvas with one lone fish breaking away at the top right. The contrast is the point; the vastness of the water, the smallness of the fish, the instinct to school and move together anyway.
